Skating Polly

Informed by riot grrrl sounds and culture, mixed with ’70′s punk rock, early-’90s alt-rock, folk music, and tinted by new-age elements, Skating Polly is a trio from Oklahoma made up of stepsisters Kelli Mayo & Peyton Bighorse, and their brother Kurtis Mayo. The band was formed in 2009 after a jam session at the girls’ Halloween party. Their sophomore album, Lost Wonderfuls (2013), was produced by none other than Exene Cervenka of X and mixed by Kliph Scurlock of The Flaming Lips. Their 2014 album, Fuzz Steilacoom was tracked by Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening. The year 2015 saw the release of a pair of new singles as the band continued to expand their touring range with a stint supporting Babes in Toyland throughout Europe. By year’s end they’d completed their fourth album, The Big Fit, which arrived in March 2016. The band has taken the stage with punk legends like Mike Watt, X, and the Flesh Eaters. Skating Polly have also toured with such indie heavy-hitters as Deerhoof, Kate Nash, and Band of Horses. The stepsisters collaborated with alternative rock goddesses Nina Gordon and Louise Post of Veruca Salt and producer Brad Wood on an EP entitled New Trick, released April of 2017.
